Rathnure St. Annes Camogie Club

Inspired by the GAA club, Rathnue Camogie Club held their first meeting on the 23rd February 1968. Under the guidance of the late Syl Barron, John Cahill and Teddy O'Connor the first officers were elected. The first chairperson of the club was Marcella Redmond. Marcella was a former Carlow County player and became the first trainer of the club

The first few years of existance were not successful on the playing field - Rathnure were beaten in two Junior finals. The club made its breakthrough in winning the championship in 1972. The club has the unique distinction of being the first club to win each new competition inaugerated by the County Board (minor, juvenile and primary schools).

After winning Junior in 1972, the club entered four teams during the various championships of 1973 - intermediate, junior, minor and juvenile. The club also entered a team in the community games. Success in 1973 occured in intermediate, minor and juvenile. The club qualified for the community games finals and a trip to Butlins where they went on to win beating Roscrea in the final. This was the first team to bring All-Ireland Club honours to Wexford and Rathnure.

In 1974 the club won the camogie Feile na nGael in Limerick. Again this was the first Wexford camogie club to do so. Minor and Juvenile championship wins were the highlight of a very successful year.

In 1995, the club achieved its ultimate goal and won the All-Ireland Club Final. They were the first Wexford Club to achieve this.

2008 will be remembered for a tremendous county final win over 6 in a row chasing Oulart the Ballagh.
